This is Payton's first report card as a home-school student. MY first report card as a teacher. Her teacher. I didn't think I would ever say that. Home schooling was always something my friends did, and I have many who home school. I didn't think I was a home school mom. I didn't think Payton was a home school student. But here I am, 12 weeks into home schooling my daughter.
My reasons for home schooling were rooted in Payton's anxiety about a brand new school in the beginning. Twelve weeks later though, I have additional reasons. I am finding it such a joy being involved, and in charge of, every aspect of her learning. Home schooling has changed my whole day to day outlook. Even the littlest things can turn into "teaching" moments.
Home schooling is by far the most challenging thing I have done as a mother. It is also turning into one of the most rewarding. I don't think it will ever be easy, no matter how long I continue - but I think it will always be rewarding. Even with the overwhelming feeling that comes with the bazillion curriculum choices, the many extra curricular options here in San Diego and the tears over dreaded math.
So for now I truly feel this is right where God intends me to be. Barely keeping my head above water with everything there is to do with home school, running a household, raising 2 kids (and one VERY energetic stubborn boy.......), making decisions about next year and the challenges a 3rd deployment will bring. I am blessed to be home, to be able to invest in my child and I am thankful each day.
Oh....and by the way - Payton rocked her first report card!
This weekend we combined a fall activity with a winter one. I had been collected leaves in bags so we could make a leaf pile to jump in. I love this shot I got of Payton with the rainbow.
Wyatt opted to ride instead of jump. Still fun.
Mike is getting ready to head out of town for a couple of weeks so I asked that he put up the Christmas lights on the house. On fall off the ladder and 2 broken shingles later................
I got to spend the morning with Payton at Mission Trails Regional Park today. A lovely woman teaches a monthly class there. This month happened to be on the Kumenaay Indians - perfect for our Indian studies we are working on.
Payton had a great time. It was a gorgeous day - perfect for a hike down to crush acorns - like real Indians!
So glad I was blessed enough to capture this smile. During "school".
This past weekend I accompanied Payti and her Girl Scout troop 8381 camping! I would go into a detailed description of the weekend but I just don't have time. So....this picture pretty much sums it up. It was cold, it was rainy....but we still had smiles! Love my girl!
